Portraits from Burning Man 2012

2012 was the year I finally got myself down to the huge festival in the the Nevada desert famously known as Burning Man. Upon preparing for my first visit to “That Thing In The Desert” I learned about a principle they use called “gifting”. Because I was going down alone and on a limited budget I decided I’d take people’s portraits and gift them back to each person once we all returned to to our default lives, giving them something to remember their burn by.

I created, a separate stand-alone website strictly for my Burning Man work and eventually got through all the editing and posted everyone’s portraits online.

Just recently I was interviewed for an online “Burner” magazine called Burn After Reading. This interview is now online so please feel free to check out the photos and the interview and say hello if you’d like.

Thanks for reading,

Wayne

Personal Vacation Photographer

While walking in Vancouver one day I had a thought, a musing whether or not a certain idea had been done before and if it was actually a small niche in the world of photography. After some online research I found that although a few people had thought of it as I was, no one was doing it. Not only was no one doing it no one was really even putting themselves out there “to do” it. So I did.

Since I have a background in web design and development it was no big deal to hunker down on a rainy afternoon and crank out a website. Now, I am currently the only photographer who has a solid online presence for “Personal Travel/Vacation Photography“.

That’s right, for a price (and granted this isn’t cheap or for everyone), I will accompany you on your vacation and take all the photos you want of you and your family as well as the locations, sights and attractions we experience.  Some debate that part of going on vacation is taking one’s own photos. Some say it sucks to never be in them with their family. It’s all up to the individual and because I know I’m an easy going, communicative guy I’m sure I can meld into any situation as to not be intrusive or annoying while capturing one’s vacation with class and professionalism.

I have yet to hear of anyone actually using or wishing there was a service such as this available but if and when they do, I’m here, ready and willing to go.

Back in Calgary

After some great road trip adventures I find myself back in Calgary. I moved back to Alberta in November for a new job opportunity.

That said it’s allowing me to upgrade my gear, and pursue my photography even more. I’ve already met a few groups of people that I’ve been shooting with, meeting models and others to shoot and steadily working forward. I’m currently saving for a new camera and for my bucket list trip to Burning Man this August. Stay tuned for photos and updates from that.

I’m Looking to Shoot Some People!

Before you call the FBI on me I mean I’m looking to take your photo, your friends photos, your friend’s friend’s photos etc. 2011 is the year I break out of my shell and step up my game when it comes to photographing human beings. Sure, I love my old cars and buildings but really, I want to make a living at this so here comes the time that I need to make a transition into a more financially viable form of photography. I’ve always liked capturing the beauty in people but have always been somewhat shy in the pursuit of such images.  That fear is going to be dead by summer.

I’m slowly adding to me gear to allow me to properly light people the way that I want to and with that comes some more learning. I’m excited to try new things (for me) and in that am willing to cut people deals as I learn. If you need head-shots, want to add to your modeling portfolio for a fair price or simply like some shots for nostalgia’s sake let me know. I’d love to work with you.

I also have some concepts in my head that I want to shot for my portfolio, so watch for news about those as I get the chance to bring them to life. I’m excited, renewed and feeling unstoppable, let the snowballing begin.

Cheers,

W

Back in the GVRD

Well my road trip went well despite the fact that I simply ran out of travel money in less time than I had hoped. So be it, life goes on. I have had some opportunities come up that may be worth the shortened travels. We’ll see how things here pan out in the next few weeks.

I’m home staying with family in Chilliwack while I regroup, open to any and all photographic endeavors anyone might have for me.

Welcome

This is the first post in the new version of well, …everything that I’ve been creating before my upcoming road trip around North America.

Since this is my main photography portfolio there will be a few photography based postings here but most of the writing I’ll be doing will be about my road trip, to be found over at my travel blog. So stop by there and see where I’m at.

As I capture certain shots I may talk about them here in this blog but mainly they’ll just be posted into the galleries as part of my portfolio.

Also, I’m very open to additional photography jobs, projects, commissions if I happen to be in your area. Also interested in shooting various bands and live concerts if anyone wants to put me on a guest list.

I hope you enjoy my work,

All the best,

Wayne
